More than 100 years ago feature film making began in Australia with The Story of the Kelly Gang opening in Melbourne. Australian filmmakers have been in demand ever since, making their mark both in front of and behind the camera. People skilled in screen practice and production work in film and television, online production and advertising or practise as video or digital artists.

The major in Screen Practice and Production will develop your skills in the production of screen media, including screenwriting, filming, editing, as well as your critical analysis through studies of cinema and documentary, representation through screen media, international television and screen soundtracks.

Key Features

• You'll have the opportunity to complete an internship as part of the major and complement your studies with industry experience.
• You'll learn to apply practical, technical, creative and theoretical skills in image and sound acquisition, including producing, cinematography, lighting, production design, sound design, and editing.
• You'll learn to apply a range of screenwriting approaches, theories and methodologies.
• You'll learn to interpret and analyse a wide range of recent screen and film-cultural theories and practices of film-making.
• You'll create numerous projects throughout the program depending on your chosen production path. Projects include documentaries, features and dramas, scripts, storyboards and screenplays, and screen soundtracks.

To apply for an undergraduate program, international students will need to have completed one or more of the following academic qualifications:

• A recognised senior secondary school qualification or university entrance examination
• A recognised university Foundation course
• A recognised 2 or 3-year Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree
• At least one year of a university degree from a recognised institution
