AU09 Bachelor of Science (Biology) Macquarie University

  • THÔNG TIN CHUNG

Biology is the science of life – the study of all living things. It encompasses diverse subdisciplines, including cell and developmental biology, behaviour, biodiversity, conservation, ecology, genetics, microbiology, anatomy and physiology.

This specialisation links structure with function and processes that influence the ecology and evolution of organisms. You’ll consider taxa ranging from microbes to fungi, plants and animals, with a focus on Australia’s unique biodiversity. Following our philosophy of learning by doing, you’ll learn to apply your knowledge and skills, with foundational quantitative methods, to independently analyse, research and creatively solve problems. You’ll be equipped to adapt and thrive in future enterprises and employment with skills such as working collaboratively on industry- and research-related projects, and effectively communicating scientific concepts in multiple modes to a range of audiences.

    Key Features

    • You’ll participate in field trips and gain practical experience in modern labs designed to foster collaboration and cutting-edge research.
    • In addition to in-depth study in biology, you can take mathematics, statistics or coding in your first year to give you the modern foundational skills relevant to future workforce needs.
    • You’ll gain an array of workplace skills and experience in fieldwork, group work, quality assurance and quality control, and report writing to get you job ready.
    • You’ll learn how to apply for scientific-based jobs and prepare for interviews; and you’ll develop presentation, project management and other critical skills that will help you to secure your dream career.
    • In your final year, you’ll undertake a work-integrated learning activity with a partner organisation to help prepare you for real workplace scenarios.
    • Macquarie is home to an 11-hectare fauna park, giving you access to world-class species research right here on campus.
    • Macquarie is ranked number one in Sydney for teaching quality and overall graduate satisfaction in science (QILT, 2017).
