AU38 Graduate Certificate in Fieldwork Practice The University of Western Australia
This course is designed for both people preparing to work in the field and researchers undertaking research fieldwork in a range of complex, unstable and potentially hostile environments. The course combines the development of core knowledge on effective field preparation through classroom teaching with practical field training through virtual reality technologies and immersive scenarios at our field camp. The core unit develops knowledge and skills in fieldwork design and planning, risk management, personal safety, ethical dilemmas, information security and crisis response, combined with flexible elective unit options.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Graduates from this course may go on to work as researchers, scientists, journalists, humanitarian aid workers, human rights advocates, engineers, diplomats and development workers in organisations such as the United Nations, Australian Government agencies (e.g. the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade), universities and research organisations, media organisations, and humanitarian NGOs such as World Vision and Oxfam.
PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
The Graduate Certificate in Fieldwork Practice employs United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) SSAFE accredited trainers to support the delivery of the core subject of this course. On completion of the intensive 7-day component of the Fieldwork in Complex and Hostile Places class , students will gain access to UNDSS accredited training certificates that enables them to meet the criteria for working on field deployments and operations under the UN umbrella.
