AU38 Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) The University of Western Australia
As a graduate of this course, you'll be able to work in government and independent schools plus other early childhood settings, both nationally and internationally. The course focuses on the education and preparation of early childhood educators with importance placed on the interface between play-based learning and intentional teaching. It is informed by comprehensive and contemporary understandings of childhood development and learning, with a special emphasis on the skills children need in developing literacy and numeracy. You'll be introduced to the breadth of learning required of early childhood educators including science, the humanities and social science, collaboration with parents and community, the arts, and health and physical education. You'll also have the opportunity to practise your teaching skills in authentic settings throughout the course and in professional practice placements. In the final semester, you will reflect on and refine your teaching skills by conducting targeted teaching interventions with a strong focus on literacy, language or numeracy.
Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) can specialise in Mathematics/numeracy through pathways in the units EDUC5509 Interventions for Learning and EDUC5710 Advanced Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment.
